Scholarship Program

Students at Kilifi County School

Friends of Angaza Nuru’s main focus is our scholarship program, which since 2012 has worked to ensure that children from Bodoi have access to basic education, funding tuition for children from grades K-12. By investing in the education and future of these children, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting change in Bodoi.

Our annual scholarship drive usually takes place in the Fall. Director Joseph sends the US Scholarship Team a list of children currently enrolled in the program, including their ages and expected school fees. The team then informs sponsors of the costs for the current school year. Once the tuition is collected, we remit the funds to Angaza Nuru in Kenya, where Joseph arranges for the sewing and purchase of school uniforms and pays the school fees to the local schools to register the children for the January term.

Our Scholarship program covers children who attend the Angaza Nuru School as well as children who attend local day schools such as Kilifi County Elementary School (pictured above). We also sponsor children who attend boarding school farther away.

During our 2024 scholarship season, we provided scholarships for over 300 children, sponsoring 260 children in the preschool and elementary school program and around 40 students in the high school program. For primary school, the cost per child is currently $75 per year, which covers a mandatory $15 uniform and $60 for registration fees. Sponsorship for secondary (8th-12th), tuition is higher and is funded from both individual sponsors and our General Education Fund.

We are actively seeking new sponsors for Elementary ($75 per year) and High School students! To become a sponsor for a child, please email scholarships@friendsofangazanuru.org and we will get back to you promptly.
