Education is a priority in Lower Bodoi, although many families must overcome a series of obstacles in order for their children to attend school. With Lower Bodoi being located in a remote area on the North Coast of Mombasa, Kenya, it is practically inaccessible due to lack of passable roads. Typically, the children walk barefoot through rivers with their siblings to go to school. With building the Angaza Nuru School, education has become more accessible.
In January 2018, the US team was in Lower Bodoi for the dedication of the new school. The land for the school was donated by a local family, Ephraim and Elizabeth Mwarema. Currently, Angaza Nuru School has 60 students and 3 teachers.
Angaza Nuru also has a sponsorship program. that provides a tuition scholarship, along with a new uniform. The cost to sponsor one child to attend school for a full year is $60. School uniforms, which are an additional $15, are required for school attendance. If interested in sponsoring a child for the 2023 school year, please visit this page or email outreach@friendsofangazanuru.org.
