Angaza Nuru School

At the beginning of the Angaza Nuru journey, the village children were educated in the local church building.  It was always our dream to construct an actual school.

In 2014 a fundraising campaign was launched to raise funds for a new school and in 2015 construction began on the new school building. The land for the school was donated by a local family, Ephraim and Elizabeth Mwarema. Phase 1 of the project (exterior walls and ceilings) was completed in 2015 and Phase 2 was complete in 2023.

In January 2018, the US team visited Lower Bodoi for the dedication of Phase 1 of the new school, and in 2023 the team visited again for the dedication of Phase 2. We were filled with joy to see the beautiful building which was constructed with love by local craftsmen, and with the assistance of people in the village as well as graduates of the Angaza Nuru program!

The school in the village currently teaches children from Nursery school (PP1 (Pre-Primary 1)) through Grade 1 (first grade) and provides them with a daily lunch meal. We are grateful for a grant from Mount Juliet TN Breakfast Rotary Club that funds the teachers’ salaries, provides them with continuing education opportunities, and pays for the teachers’ health insurance.
